Ashanti Douglas, popularly called Ashanti and was born in Glen Cove New York United States on the 13th of October, 1980. She is a singer songwriter and actress from her native United States. Ashanti became famous as a teenager and eventually signing with Murder Inc. Records in 2002. That same year she appeared in Fat Joe's What's Luv? She also appeared on Fat Joe's song What's Luv?! and Ja Rules track Always On Time, both of which have been hugely successful. She became the first female artist to have the top two spots within the Billboard Hot 100 list in the United States with Foolish at number one and What's Luv? What's Luv? Tina Douglas is the mother of Ashanti and Ken Kaide Douglas serves as the father. She is Kenashia's younger sister. She is the oldest. Douglas has named her in honour of her mother, the Ashanti Empire which was located in Ghana where women held power and influence. Douglas was hoping for Ashanti to follow the same model. James was her grandpa. James was a civil-rights leader alongside Martin Luther King Jr. in the 1960s. Ashanti's mother stumbled upon her talent by overhearing her sing Mary J. Blige's Reminisce. Ashanti was on Spike Lee's Malcolm X (1992) as well as Ted Demme's Who's the Man? as an extra in her youth. She also had a few performances in music videos like K.R.S.-Act One's MC's don't even know as well as 8-Off's Ghetto Girl. Her career as a musician was hindered due to her lack of commercial success following her being approached by major labels like Bad Boy and Jive. The Declaration her fourth studio album was launched on June 3, 2008. Hey Baby (After The Club) was released on radios as well as digital platforms on October 16.
